Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Dear Parents:
As I look out the window, I see the snow flying!  We’ve had great fall weather and we can only hope that our winter will be short!
During the winter months we typically see a drop in student attendance. Attendance is a key ingredient to students’ success and while schools play a large part in educating your child, we can’t do our job if your child is absent.  Learning builds day to day and if your child misses a day of school, they miss a day of learning.
Research shows that students that are in school the majority of the time receive better grades and do better on standardized tests.  Children that our frequently absent may also feel unprepared, left out socially, and hopelessly behind academically.  This can lead to school avoidance issues.

Being late for school can also have a negative impact on student learning.  As an example, a student that is 5-minutes late every day could miss 15 hours of instructional time!  It is true that students can copy notes or make up an assignment but they can never get back what’s most important:  the discussions, questions, and explanations facilitated by the teacher that makes the learning come alive.
Your child’s success in school depends on having a solid educational background that can be gained by regular school attendance.

Sincerely,

Eric Runck
