PreSchool Screening

Voluntary screenings for all three and four year old children living in the Fox River Grove District 3 attendance area will be held throughout the year at Oak Knoll Early Childhood Center in Cary School District 26.

The screening gives information about developmental skills such as how the child uses his or her body (motor skills), speech and language skills, knowledge of basic concepts like counting and colors (conceptual skills), and the child’s vision and hearing development.

Screenings are free, but it is necessary to schedule an appointment.

If you wish to have your child screened, please contact Beth Voyles at 847-516-5100 or email her voylesb@dist3.org. Please share your name, address, phone number, child's name and date of birth in the message. You must complete registration paperwork and prove residency prior to scheduling a screening appointment.

For children under the age of three, please contact Child & Family Connections (CFC). Referrals can be made by a family member, doctor, day care provider, or anyone concerned about the development of a child who is under 36 months old. To make a referral call, the Intake Coordinator at 815-477-4720 ext. 238.

Kindergarten Screening

Kindergarten screening will occur on May 9, 2023

Screenings are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis after

Kindergarten Registration and Questionnaire is reviewed.

Kindergarten Screenings occur typically in the spring after the Kindergarten district registration has occurred. This screening is used to determine if any interventions or supports need to be in place at the beginning of the school year to ensure student success in the transition to Kindergarten. Students are identified based upon information gathered in the registration packet and questionnaire that is completed.

The screening is a play based assessment completed by the special services team which may include Special Education Teacher, General Education Teacher, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech/Language Pathologist, and other team members as relevant. The team will look at academic skills, motor skills, speech or language skills. and social interactions.
