STOP SIGN

Student safety in District 3 extends beyond the classroom. It's a shared community commitment that begins the moment a child leaves home and continues until they arrive on campus—whether walking, driving, or riding a D3 bus. This month, our #SAFEeagle spotlight focuses on the crucial role everyone plays in keeping our students secure during their commute.

The Non-Negotiable Bus Stop:

Our bus drivers are on the front line of this effort. When a school bus extends its bright red stop sign, the law is simple and absolute: all vehicles, in both directions, must stop. A moment of inattention or a hasty decision to pass can have dire consequences. Stopping is mandatory and non-negotiable—it's how we protect students crossing the road.

Our Frontline Safety Heroes: Crossing Guards:

Another vital layer of protection is provided by our dedicated crossing guards. They are experts on their corners and familiar with our students. When a crossing guard steps into the street and signals a stop or raises their hand, they are ensuring a safe passage for children and removing a worry for families.

Safety is a Shared Responsibility:

We remind our community that safety is not solely the school district's burden; it is a collaborative effort. We urge everyone to:

Slow Down near schools and bus stops.

Look Up and remain alert to your surroundings.

Follow Every Signal given by our bus drivers and crossing guards.

Small choices in safety lead to a big community impact.
