D3 Social Emotional Resources

Students in a classroom setting, engaged in learning activities.

Social Emotional Learning

In Fox River Grove School District 3, we prioritize Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) as an integral part of our educational approach. SEL skills are intentionally incorporated throughout our curriculum, empowering students to thrive academically and emotionally.

District 3’s SEL resources are evidence-based and designed to foster students' emotional intelligence, empathy, and problem-solving. Students at Algonquin Road School receive this instruction through Second Step and students at the Middle School receive this instruction through Wayfinder.

Bullying

Bullying, intimidation, and harassment diminish a student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate. Preventing students from engaging in these disruptive behaviors and providing all students equal access to a safe, non-hostile learning environment are important district and school goals.

Additional information regarding bullying can be found in Fox River Grove’s Bullying Board Policy 7:180 and the Fox River Grove School Handbook.

Erin's Law

Erin’s Law was passed in January 2013 and requires all public schools to implement age-appropriate, prevention-oriented sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education for grades PK-12. If sexual abuse or assault of a student occurs, students and families should contact the nearest hospital, police or a trusted school employee for help. All Fox River Grove School District 3 employees are state-mandated reporters and are required to report allegations of abuse and/or neglect to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

PBIS

To promote a positive school climate for students and staff at Fox River Grove School District, we implement Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS). The purpose of PBIS is to teach children to make appropriate choices, accept responsibility for their behavior, and understand that behaviors may have consequences.

Our district-wide conduct expectations are: We Are Safe, We Are Responsible, and We Are Respectful. Students are expected to behave in a safe manner, take ownership of their choices and actions, display a positive attitude, and respect themselves, others, and property. District-wide conduct expectations will be discussed with students at the beginning of the year and reminders will occur throughout the year. Expectations will be reviewed regularly to adequately gauge overall student success.

Additionally, when students demonstrate behavior that meets our school-wide expectations, students will be given Eagle Bucks paired with positive praise. Students can exchange Eagle Bucks for rewards, reinforcing positive choices and encouraging a strong, respectful school community.

PBIS is a long-term commitment, not a short-term effort. We're building a foundation for a positive school culture that will consistently support your child's behavior and social-emotional growth. You'll hear the language of Safe, Respectful, and Responsible from your child as they learn these values as Fox River Grove Eagles.
