Fox River Grove District 3 Board of Education Earns Governance Recognition Honor
The Fox River Grove District 3 Board of Education has been recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) for its exceptional governance practices. D3 was one of 53 Illinois school districts to earn the School Board Governance Recognition honor for their effective governance behaviors and their commitment to obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead the district.
IASB’s School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges local boards of education that practice good governance behaviors as outlined by IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. These foundational principles include the board clarifying the district’s purpose, connecting with the community, monitoring performance, taking responsibility for itself, and more.
The focus of Governance Recognition is on full board development and participation. Boards that meet the necessary requirements are recognized for the two-year honorary distinction.

“The Board of Education has worked incredibly hard to improve practices and outcomes for the community of Fox River Grove,” said Superintendent Dr. Matt Mayer. “Our Board of Education is constantly working with one central focus in mind: our students.”
“Over the last three years, this board has been committed to engaging with our stakeholders, as evidenced by the development of our strategic plan.” said Dr. Mayer.
The School Board Governance Recognition program aims to showcase how good governance creates a positive impact for students, staff, and the entire district community. It provides an opportunity for districts to tell their story about programs and projects that are improving outcomes in their local school districts and offers board members a chance to highlight how continuous learning, both by individual board members and the full board team, results in improved governance for the board of education and positive outcomes for the district.
“I'm incredibly proud of the work our Board has put into continuing to grow as a governing team,” said Board President Melissa Brennan. “Through ongoing training, self-evaluation, and a willingness to continually learn and improve, we have worked hard to make sure we're serving our district well. This recognition means a great deal because it reflects the time and effort our Board members have invested in that work.”
“Our Strategic Plan has given us a shared direction, shaped by the voices of our students, staff, families and community,” President Brennan added. “This recognition reflects our commitment to thoughtful governance, working collaboratively with Dr. Mayer, and keeping our district focused on Excellence Every Day.”
The Illinois Association of School Boards is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening the public schools through local citizen control. Although not a part of state government, IASB is organized by member school boards as a private not-for-profit corporation under authority granted by Article 23 of the Illinois School Code.
