Hi! I’m Donnie Castans, and I’m thrilled to be the new Principal at Fox River Grove Middle School!
This is my sixteenth year in education. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry Education from Illinois State University and have spent my career in a variety of roles including high school science teacher, Science Department Chair, EdTech Coordinator, and Associate Principal. Along the way, I’ve also coached lacrosse and Scholastic Bowl, and sponsored clubs like Astronomy, Juggling, and Rock Climbing.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my wife, Kelly, our son Griffin (2½), and our daughter Zoey (9 months). You’ll often find me outdoors, watching movies, playing video and board games, or creating art. I used to rock climb and am gradually trying to get back into it!
I’m always open to new experiences and challenges, which is something I try to pass on to the students and staff I work with. I believe in nurturing curiosity, encouraging excitement, and helping everyone grow their 4C’s skills as lifelong learners. Questions are always welcome, and creating space for students to explore learning in their own unique ways is a must.
I’m looking forward to an amazing 2025–2026 school year and getting to know you and the Fox River Grove community!
